Australian language, particularly the more colourful slang used infrequently in formal situations is by it's nature, best served dry.
Some of my favourite expressions are twists on commonly known Australian slang, such as "better than a poke in the eye with a burnt sausage" a variation on "~ with a burnt stick", refers to something which isn't such a bad thing, or a good thing.
"Having a few kangaroos loose in the top paddock" Is an expression which refers to a mad person or one who does not have full grasp of his/her faculties. "Been waiting for yonks" refers to one who has been waiting for a long time. Some beaut expressions which have been popularised recently by archetypal Aussie characters such as Paul Hogan and Steve Irwin include "Crikey!" an expression of astonishment, and of course that all pervasive "G'day"-(no explanation needed).
Another favourite expression of mine is the salutation "Hooroo".
